Major General Bismark Kwasi Onwona conducts maiden tour of Northern Command

The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Major General (Maj Gen) Bismark Kwasi Onwona has embarked on a 3-day tour of deployments in the Northern Region from 20-22 February, 2024.

As part of the tour, he paid a courtesy call on the Yaa Naa of Dagbon, His Royal Majesty Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama, to introduce himself and seek his blessings. The COAS indicated that he was on his maiden visit to all Units under his Command to enable him have firsthand information on their operations.

His Royal Majesty Yaa Naa Abukari, expressed appreciation to the COAS for the acknowledgement. He mentioned that peace and security was key to ensuring development of the area. He urged the COAS to keep up the good works of his predecessor.

The COAS proceeded to the office of the Northern Regional Minister, Honourable Shani Alhassan Saibu where they had discussions relating to peace and security. The Minister assured the COAS of his unwavering support during his tenure.

Major General Onwona also visited the Army Special Operations Training School, Daboya, 69 Airborne Force, 6 Infantry Battalion and 10 Mechanized Battalion. Other Units visited include 11 Mechanized Battalion, 12 Mechanized Battalion, Sandema and 155 Armoured Regiment, Damago.

He interacted with troops and assured them that together with his Staff Officers, he would do his utmost best to solve the logistics challenges they faced in their operations.

He further highlighted his vision which he said ‘to maintain a cohesive, motivated, and well-rounded Ghana Army capable of undertaking its mission’.
