GHANBATT 9 Contributes to Fighting Flood in Bentiu

Over the past few weeks, Troops of UNMISS GHANBATT 9 have been contributing to the fight against flooding in Bentiu. The floods which began around May this year has affected over 800, 000 people and has been described as the worst flooding situation in over 60 years.

The floods are being attributed to multiple causes which include the river Nile over flowing its banks, heavy rains in the Northern regions of the country and the rising water levels of Lake Victoria.

The flooding is posing a danger to human lives, livestock and the environment and has adversely affected mobility and operational activities.  As a result, GHANBATT conducts 24/7 mobile and static patrols to monitor and report on the flood situation.
