Commander of US Army Europe and Africa Calls on Military High Command

The Commander of United States (US) Army Europe and Africa, Gen Christopher G Cavoli called on the Military High Command at the General Headquarters (GHQ), Burma Camp on Monday 15 November 2021. General Cavoli and his team were welcomed to the GHQ by the Acting Chief of the Defence Staff (A/CDS) and current Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Major General Thomas-Oppong Peprah.

The purpose of the visit was to discuss ongoing areas of cooperation between the United States and Ghana and to also apprise himself on the role of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) in supporting domestic and regional security efforts. The visit furthermore sought to explore new ways of expanding the already existing bilateral partnership between the two States.

The A/CDS in his interaction with General Cavoli, stated that the visit was a clear demonstration of the growing bilateral relations between the two armies. Major General Oppong-Peprah stated that the GAF was extremely grateful to the US Government for their continuous support in the areas of training, capacity building, logistics and aviation.  

With the General were the US Ambassador to Ghana, Her Excellency Stephanie S Sullivan and her Deputy Nicole Chulick, US Defence Attaché Lt Col Victor Maduka and some Staff with the Office of Security Cooperation at the US Embassy.

Also present for the visit were Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Frank Hanson, Commodore Samuel Walker who represented the Chief of Naval Staff, Chief of Staff at the General Headquarters Major General Peter Andoh, Director General, Personnel Administration Air Commodore Mike Appiah-Agyakum and other Senior Officers.
