An Induction Religious Parade was held on Sunday 24 October 2021 for UNMISS GHANBATT 9 at the Battalion Headquarters in Bentiu, South Sudan. This was to mark the successful insertion of GHANBATT 9 into the Area of Operational Responsibility.
The Service, under the theme ‘Service in Humility’ also saw the consecration of the Battalion and United Nations’ colours. In an Islamic homily delivered by the GHANBATT Imam, Sub Lt Abdul Mannan Yusif, he implored all troops to eschew pride and be submissive in order to achieve the purpose for which the Battalion had been deployed.
The Chaplain, Fg Offr Gershon Dotse, counseled Command to have an intimate relationship with God and always seek God’s guidance and direction in his decision making. He further entreated all ranks to submit to the authority of God and remain committed to their duties.
Lt Col Mfum in his remarks, thanked the Almighty God for how far he had brought the Battalion and asked for His grace to see the Battalion through the one year tour of duty. He also encouraged troops not to give up in face of challenges but be hopeful for God’s intervention.
The Sector North Commander, Brigadier General Robert Yaw Affram, who was the Guest of Honour, urged troops to be discipline and exhibit a high sense of professionalism. He added that, the terrain was a challenging one which required mental toughness and therefore advised all ranks to be diligent in their duties.
Brig Gen Affram emphasized that Ghana has been contributing to peacekeeping missions since 1960 with incredible success, hence the need for UNMISS GHANBATT 9 to continue to fly the flag of Ghana high. The memorable occasion was witnessed by Commanding Officers from Ghana Formed Police Unit and Vietnam Level II Hospital as well as representatives from Pakistan Military Engineering Task Force, Sector Unity Headquarters and some Humanitarian Agencies.
