Retired Armed Forces Officers Wives Association (RAFOWA) has paid a courtesy call on the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) Vice Admiral Seth Amoama, on Thursday 7 October, 2021, at his office in Burma Camp.
The delegation led by its President, Mrs Diana Mantey, disclosed that the purpose of the visit was to congratulate him on his promotion to the rank of Vice Admiral and appointment as the CDS as well as introduce the Association to him.
Mrs Mantey noted that the Association was formed to maintain the bond among wives of retired Officers after active service adding that it also offers the opportunity to check up on each other and lend a helping hand in times of need.
She appealed to the CDS to help them solicit funds for the purchase of a welfare bus and also cater for some basic needs of the Association. She also appealed for allocation of a burial ground at the military cemetery for wives of retired officers since most of them lost touch of their extended families to be with their husband’s when they were in active service hence it becomes a challenge for them to get support from the extended family when their husband’s leave them behind.
On his part the CDS expressed his delight for their thoughtfulness. He stressed that his outfit would do it best to channel their grievances to higher authorities to be addressed. He however pledged an amount of ten thousand Ghana cedis (GHC10, 000) to support the purchase of a welfare bus for the Association and assured them of his support anytime they call upon him.
The secretary of the Association Mrs Evelyn Frimpong presented a congratulatory card to the CDS on behalf of the Association.
