The ECOWAS Commission on Small Arms through the National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons (NACSA) has presented Physical Security and Stockpile Management (PSSM) Equipment to the Base Ammunition Depot (BAD) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) at Burma Camp on Monday, 19 July 2021.
Presenting the equipment the Special Representative of the President of ECOWAS Commission, Ambassador Babagana Wakil stated that, the equipment were to help GAF in the combat of illegal proliferation and circulation of Small Arms and Light Weapons in the country.
Receiving the equipment, the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Vice Admiral Seth Amoama remarked that a team of experts from the ECOWAS Mines Advisory Group visited Ghana to ascertain the condition of ammunition depots of some Security Services from 22 to 26 February, 2021.
The CDS added that, the equipment will help BAD to discharge its mandate efficiently. He therefore thanked the leadership of ECOWAS Commission on Small Arms and the National Commission for Small Arms for making the donation and assured that the equipment would be used for the intended purpose and benefit of GAF and the entire ECOWAS Sub-Region.
The Executive Secretary of NACSA, Mr Jones Applerh, indicated that the donation was in fulfillment of Article nine of the ECOWAS Convention which demands that member-states who do not have a digital data base should establish one. He added that the presentation was also to assist GAF in the computerization of their data base.
Present were the Service Chiefs, Directors General, Directors, and other Senior Officers.
