153 Armoured Regiment Plants 700 Trees to Mark ‘Green Ghana Day’

The 153 Armoured Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) led by the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) WAK Ackah on Monday, 11 June 2021 embarked on a tree planting exercise at the regiment to mark “Green Ghana Day”.

According to Lt Col Ackah, 700 trees comprising Mahogany, Cashew and Ceiba were planted, and they would be observed and nurtured to ensure its growth and progress for a sustainable development.

He stated that, the initiative was aimed at improving the green nature of the barracks, improve urban forestry and create the awareness of the importance of all types of forest in order to reduce deforestation. Lt Col Ackah added that, the initiative was in support of the President of the Republic of Ghana and Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s directive to plant over 5 million trees in an effort to preserve and protect the country’s forest reserve and the environment code-named “Green Ghana Project”.

In all, 200 All Ranks took part in the tree planting exercise.
