The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Major General Thomas Oppong-Peprah led an 8-Member Delegation from the family of the late Lieutenant General Emmanuel Alexander Erskine to the President of the Republic of Ghana and Commander-In-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), HE Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House in Accra on Monday, 7 June 2021.
The visit was aim to officially inform the President of the death of the late Lieutenant General Erskine.
The President, Nana Akufo-Addo welcomed the family to the seat of government expressing his sadness at the news of the General’s demise. He extended his deepest condolences to the family and GAF. He stated that, the late General was a Commander with many potentials and enthusiasm for world peace and therefore directed that a State Burial be held in his honour.
Lieutenant General Erskine who left a memorable legacy as a peacekeeper, was God fearing and a dedicated Military Commander, leader and servant. He was the first Force Commander to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) between March 1978 and February 1981. He passed away on Friday, 7 May 2021 and his mortal remains would be interred on August 8, 2021. The venue for the interment will be announced later.
COAS and the family of late General Erskine were accompanied by the Director General Personnel Administration, Air Commodore Michael Kwame Appiah-Agyekum, Director Public Relations, Colonel Eric Aggrey-Quashie, Director Religious Affairs, Capt (GN) Paul Adjei-Djan and some Senior Officers.
