The President of the Republic of Ghana and Commander-in-Chief (C-in-C) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the Military High Command have visited the family of late Lieutenant General Emmanuel Alexander Erskine at his residence on Thursday, 13 May 2021 to commiserate with them.
According to the President, Ghana and the Armed Forces had lost a great personality and assured the family that all necessary arrangements regarding the funeral rites would be supported by the state.
He stated that, the late Lt Gen had distinguished himself throughout his years of service and had become the icon of military excellence throughout Ghana, Africa and the world at large.
The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Vice Admiral Seth Amoama, on his part, indicated that, the late Lt Gen Erskine was a true inspiration to GAF, an epitome of excellence and an exceptional leader.
The CDS on behalf of the President donated 15 cartons of bottle water, 10 cartons of assorted soft drinks and an amount of Twenty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH?20,000) to the family.
The Spokesperson for the family, Nana Kweku Duah commended the President and the Military High Command for their visit and support to the family. He added that, the funeral arrangements would be communicated later.
Chief of Staff (COS) at the General Headquarters, Major General Nicholas Peter Andoh also praised the late Lt Gen Erskine for his exceptional leadership skills when he was made the First Force Commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNFIL).
Present at the residence were the Defence Minister, Hon Dominic Nitiwul, the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Rear Admiral Issah Adams Yakubu, the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Vice Marshal Frank Hanson and some Senior Officers.
