The Head of Naval Security for Africa and Pakistan, Mr Paulo Campi has paid a courtesy call on the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) Vice Admiral Seth Amoama on Wednesday, 28 April, 2021 at the General Headquarters, Burma Camp.
The visit among other things was to congratulate the CDS on his appointment, strengthen the existing bilateral relationship between both countries and to discuss matters of mutual concern regarding the recent menace of piracy in the Gulf of Guinea.
The CDS welcomed Mr Paulo and his entourage, expressing his delight for their visit.
According to Vice Admiral Seth Amoama, the Ghana Navy needed to be resourced in order to combat the activities of pirates in the Gulf of Guinea. He added that, plans were underway to acquire offshore patrol vessels to aid the fight against the menace.
Mr Paulo Campi on his part said, he was pleased to meet the CDS and pledged Italy’s readiness to collaborating with the Government of Ghana and the Navy to combat maritime security challenges through partnership, technology, training and capacity building.
Mr Paulo was accompanied by the Italian Ambassador to Ghana Her Excellency Daniela D’Orlando.
