The Chief of the Defence Staff, Vice Admiral Seth Amoama has paid a 3-day familiarisation visit to the 6 Garrison Units in the Northern Sector of Ghana from Tuesday 6 April to Thursday 8 April 2021.
On his arrival, Vice Admiral Amoama inspected a guard of honour parade comprising personnel from the 6 Infantry Battalion and the Air Force Base Tamale.
Day one of his visit afforded the CDS the opportunity to interact with personnel from 10 and 11 Mechanised Battalion as the tour took him to Wa and Bawku respectively.
The Commanding Officers of the 2 Units briefed him on operational matters and highlighted their troop deployments especially along the country’s borders with Burkina Faso to counter growing threat of terrorism.
The CDS assured the troops of government’s commitment in providing them with additional logistics to keep Ghana’s territorial borders safe.
On day two, Vice Admiral Amoama visited the Daboya Training Camp where he interacted with recruit instructors on various issues including the challenges they are facing since the first batch of recruits started training.
He further paid a courtesy call on the Ya-Na Abubakari Mahama in Yendi as well as the Chief Director Alhaji Alhassan Issahaku at the Tamale Regional Coordination Council.
The CDS ended the visit with an all ranks durbar at the Tamale Air Force Base new hangar, where he stated that, his maiden visit as CDS was to introduce himself, interact and better appreciate troop concerns and challenges in the Garrison.
He encouraged troops to adhere to discipline in promoting a formidable Ghana Armed Forces by not allowing politics to divide personnel but rather be professional at all times when performing military duties.
He ended the visit with a tour of the Air Force Base, 6 Battalion and Airborne Force. He was accompanied on his visit by the Chief of Staff, Director General Joint Operations, Director General Personal Administration, Director General Medical, and the Gender Adviser to the Chief of Defence Staff.
