The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), General Headquarters has held its maiden retreat for 2021 which started from Tuesday, 23 March 2021 to Friday, 26 March 2021 for Commanders in GAF at Burma Camp.
The theme for the retreat: “Refocusing the Ghana Armed Forces to enhance efficiency and effectiveness”.
The main objective of the retreat was to come up with a pragmatic strategy to deal with challenges confronting the Ghana Armed Forces.
The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Vice Admiral Seth Amoama in his opening address, commended the immediate past CDS Lieutenant General Obed Boamah Akwa for the legacies he left which he intended to continue.
He noted some key areas he intends to address as the CDS of which he termed as the 4Rs; Reorientation, Reorganisation, Refocusing to Restore the reputation and image of GAF. He said Ghana Armed Forces should stand tall to defend the territorial boarders of the state.
The CDS employed a participatory leadership style because he believed the varied experiences, expertise, wisdom and goodwill of the core of Generals and Directors General in GAF will produce winsome outcomes.
Vice Admiral Amoama mentioned how GAF can optimize funds from government and justified the need to reverse the dwindling budgetary allocation vis-à-vis the expanding role of the Ghana Armed Forces to deal with new emerging threats.
Present at the retreat were the National Security Coordinator, Major General Francis Adu Amanfo (Rtd), National Developing Planning Commission, Mr Essiem Mensah-Abrampa, Chief Director Ministry of Defence, Mr Evans Agbeme Dzikum, Service Chiefs, Commandants, Formation Commanders, Director Generals, Directors and other Senior Officers.
