The late Colonel Daniel Agyakwa Afari (Rtd) has been laid to rest at the Military cemetery in Burma Camp on Friday 26 March 2021.
At the final funeral rites held at the Garrison Methodist Presbyterian Church (GMPC) Burma Camp, the family eulogized him as a listener, an adviser, disciplinarian, a noble man of integrity and a responsible, generous father with a good sense of humor.
Delivering the sermon, the Chaplain of the United Church at Teshie Nungua Estate, Rev Canon Abraham Elijah Quarshie encouraged all present to neither question God nor cry bitterly for life is like a notebook with two phases one is for birth and the second, death. He then urged all to fill the middle part of the book which was empty with smiles and love, for with smiles and love; one will find himself with Jesus when called.
The late Col Afari (Rtd) attended Salvation Army School at Begoro And received his middle school education at Hohoe after which he successfully gained admission to one of the most prestigious Schools in Ghana, Achimota Secondary School in 1954 where he obtained the West African School Certificate Grade II.
He was enlisted into the Ghana Military Academy (GMA) Teshie and was commissioned on 30 September, 1961 as part of the Regular Career Course, GMA intake I. He, however, gained the opportunity to attend most of the officer’s career courses both at home and abroad from October to November 1961. He attended Athletics Coaches at the military Academy School at Teshie from June to August 1964. He also attended the course for photographic interpretation in the United Kingdom from January to March 1966 amongst others.
The late Col Daniel Afari is survived by his wife Mrs Comfort Ama Agyeiwaa Afari and 9 children. He passed on after a short illness on 29th December, 2020.
The funeral service was attended by the former Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal JO Boateng, President of Retired Commissioned Officers Association, Brigadier General Oppong Kyekyeku. Ghana Military Intake I Association, Retired Commissioned Officers Association, Retired Officers Wives Association, Commissioned Officers Association, Retired Officers Wives Association and Members of the United Church.
