The Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC), has held its 14th matriculation ceremony for Master of Science in Defence and International Politics (MDIP) which is the 7th in a role at Hamidu Hall on Friday 11 March, 2021 at Teshie.
The ceremony which was also the 7th matriculation in a role for the weekend Class 2022, saw a total of 46 students from Zimbabwe, South Africa and Ghana.
In his address, the Commandant GAFCSC, Rear Admiral Moses Beick-Baffour welcomed the students with great pleasure. He said, the college was established to train selected officers at the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), other Security Services and qualified civilians as well as officers from sister African countries, for middle level policy, command, staff and leadership functions. It was also to provide higher level of engagement within national and international environment.
The Commandant mentioned that the world was saddled with a lot of challenges which included youth unemployment, migration, waste management, sanitation, poverty, religious, political and ethnic intolerance and many more that continue to pose threat to individual states and global stability.
Adding that, national and global insecurity had been exacerbated by the rise in activism of non-state actors in the form of terrorism.
The Commandant said, the knowledge acquired by the students in their fields of study, would make them stand in good stead to understand the context and complexities, in which these issues become metaphors for defining international politics and global insecurity. He added that, the knowledge would also help contribute meaningfully to national and global issues.
The Registrar GAFCSC, Mrs Stella Afful took the students through the matriculation oath which formally ushered them into the College.
The coordinator and laison at Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Dr Yaw Appiah Marfo speaking on behalf of the rector GIMPA, Prof Philip Ebo Bondzi- Simpson congratulated the matriculants.
Present at the ceremony were the Deputy Commandant GAFCSC, Brig Gen A K Adu, Assistant Commandant senior division, Brig Gen W A Seidu, the Dean and Director of Academic Affairs, Dr Vladimir Antwi-Danso.
