The Third Battalion of Infantry, (3Bn) has organized a special send off and thanksgiving religious parade for the 1991 intake at the Saint Theodore Catholic Church Liberation Barracks Sunyani on Sunday 31 January, 2021.
The ceremony was under the distinguished patronage of Lt Col Yaw John Kwarteng the Commanding Officer (CO) of the 3Bn, with Rev Father Erasmus Ashietey, Rev Father Dominic Prince Yeboah, Pastor Lambert Owusu Boakye, and Imam Issah Ibrahim as the officiating Clergy.
Rev Father Erasmus Ashietey in his sermon extolled Intake 1991 members for the 30 years of distinguished service to the Colours. According to him, each had their own success stories as well as failures and disappointments within their 30 years journey with the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), however gratitude is essential through it all. He also urged them to utilize the time judiciously with their families and be of continuous service to the communities they will relocate to.
The CO in his remarks said “It is everybody’s wish to one day return home on pension yet not everybody has the opportunity to return home.” The CO used the occasion to congratulate the wives of the retirees for their support throughout the years despite all the challenges associated with marrying a soldier.
Lt Col Kwarteny also advised the group to tap into the rich experience of those already on pension to enable a smooth sail into the new phase of life and enjoined the 1991 Intake to desist from any activity that will mar the enviable reputation they have chalked. Rather they should commit their experience into making the society a better place. The occsion was climaxed with a special get together and presentation of citations.
Present at the ceremony were Lt Col Kofi Obiri-Yeboah (CO) 154 Recce Regiment who doubles as the 3 Garrison Commander, personnel of the 3 Garrison as well as families and friends of the 1991 intake group.
