The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), on Thursday 28 January 2021 inaugurated phase 1 of Self-Help Barracks Regeneration projects for soldiers at 6th Battalion of Infantry and Airborne Force at Kamina and Barwah Barracks in Tamale.
Inaugurating the Units buildings on behalf of the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General Obed Boamah Akwa, Rear Admiral Seth Amoama, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), assured the troops that the GAF would remain committed to dealing with matters of welfare and accommodation.
He used the occasion to express his gratitude to the contactor and commended personnel of 495 Engineer Squadron for working tirelessly to have the project completed.
Rear Admiral Amoama emphasized on the sacrifices and financial input the GAF has channelled into these projects and advice personnel as well as their families to take good care of them to ensure their longevity.
The construction of five new blocks with 20 apartments which commenced in 2019, was aimed at easing the accommodation challenges faced by troops in the Northern Command. Each of these apartments has a living room, two bedrooms, a kitchen and a standard sanitary facility.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC), Northern Command, Brigadier General Moses Mohammed Aryee expressed his appreciation to the Military High Command for having the welfare of soldiers at heart and assured that the command will continue to execute its role with diligence and utmost professionalism at all times.
The delegation also inspected some accommodation projects ongoing at the Air Force Base Tamale.
In attendance were, the Air Force Base Commander, Air Commodore David Anety Akrong, Principal Staff Officers of the Northern Command Headquarters, Commanding Officer 6th Battalion of Infantry, Commanding Officer Airborne Force, Officers and Men and women of the two units as well as their families.
