The Deputy Force Commander (DFC) of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), Major General MD Main Ullah Chawdhury, paid a working visit to the Ghana Independent Infantry Company 3 (GHANCOY 3) on Thursday 14 January, 2021 at Mango Camp, Aweil, South Sudan.
The DFC was accompanied by a Sixteen-Member delegation made up of the Acting Sector West Commander, Col John Arvid Svindland, the Commanding Officer (CO) Bangladesh Battalion (Banbatt 4), Col Selim Azad and Staff Officers from the Force and Sector West Headquarters.
They were welcomed by the Officer Commanding (OC) GHANCOY 3, Lieutenant Colonel Rafat Awudu, the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Head of Field Office (HOFO) in Aweil Mrs MA Inecita Montero and some Key Appointment holders of GHANCOY 3 at the Aweil Airfield after which the DFC inspected a Guard of Honour.
Maj Gen Ullah Chawdhury expressed his appreciation and commendations to GHANCOY for their self-dedication towards the achievement of the UNMISS Mandate and the good image projected in the mission after he was briefed. He urged the GHANCOY to continue to maintain the standard of professionalism set for itself.
As part of the visit, the DFC also paid a courtesy call on the Governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State (NBeG), Honourable Tong Akeen Ngor and the commander, 3 Division of the South Sudan People Defense Force (SSPDF), Major General Bak Akoon.
The visit was to discuss how to improve on the existing relationship between 3 Division of SSPDF and UNMISS GHANCOY in NBeG. Honourable Tong Akeen welcomed the DFC and his entourage adding that his doors were always opened to UNMISS for cooperation towards development and peace in NBeG. Major General Bak Akoon reiterated the need for both sides to share information in order to have a peaceful working relationship.
