The Acting Sector West Commander (A/Swest Comd) of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), Col John Arvid Svindland, paid a three 3-day working visit to the Ghana Independent Infantry Company (GHANCOY) from Wednesday 6 to Friday 8 January, 2021 at the Mango Camp, Aweil, South Sudan.
He was received by the Officer Commanding (OC) GHANCOY 3, Lt Col Rafat Awudu and Staff Officers on his arrival.
He was briefed on Thursday 7 January 2021 as part of the programme outline for his visit on the security situation in the Area of Operation and some Operational constraints. He also had a short interaction with All Ranks where he stated that, his visit was to formally welcome GHANCOY to South Sudan and also familiarize himself with the personnel of the unit.
Col Svindland said the United Nations (UN) was counting on personnel of GHANCOY 3 to provide peace and security within Aweil township and beyond, by protecting lives and property in the Area of Operation (AoR) which was the core mandate of UN.
He expressed his profound gratitude to the OC, Officers, Men and Women of GHANCOY for their support to UN in maintaining peace and security in South Sudan.
The OC GHANCOY 3 in his address during a dinner held in honour of Col Svindland, reaffirmed the unit’s commitment to task under the guidance of the S/West to achieve the end state of the Mission.
Among the delegation were Major Yang Haifeng Chief G5, Major Huang Guohai MA to Acting Sector West Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Tsolmon Bayar Chief G3 HQ SW, Sqn Ldr Nathalia Dakurah Chief G9 and Sqn Ldr Joseph Ntiamoah.
