Rear Admiral Heidi Berg of the United States African Command (USAFCOM), has paid a courtesy call on the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) Lieutenant General Obed Boamah Akwa at his office on Friday 14 June 2019 at the General Headquarters (GHQ) Burma Camp, Accra.

The objective of the meeting was to discuss issues that will aid in strengthening the bilateral relationship that exist between the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and the United States of America (USA).

The CDS stated that GAF have had a good working relationship with USAFCOM hence the  delight to have received such an awesome visit.

He mentioned that Africa had been challenged with terrorism, of which the most affected were Burkina Faso, La Cote d’Ivoire and Nigeria stressing that Ghana’s recent issues of kidnapping of  Canadian nationals, was a major security concern.

The Director of the Defence Intelligence (DI), Brigadier General Peter Nicholas Andoh  reiterated that the collaborative efforts of the security services and other intelligence gathered were the key ingredients that aided the successful rescue of the two Canadians.
