Nigerian National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies calls on CDS

A 19 member delegation from the Nigerian National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) on a study tour to Ghana has on Thursday 15 0ctober, 2020 called on the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General Obed Boamah Akwa at his office in Burma Camp.

The visit among other things was to study the qualitative input of the national policy making process and the population dynamics of Ghana in order to further their studies and presentation to the institute and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The leader of the delegation who doubled as the Director of Research NIPSS, Professor Dung Pam Sha noted, the institute since its establishment had played a vital role in advising the Federal Government on policy issues affecting the Nigerian society.

He stated that the institute operates under the office of the President of the Federal Republic and gives policy guidance to the government on critical national issues. He further noted that as part of the study tour, the delegation would visit other important institutions to understudy their business policies.

The CDS, Lt Gen OB Akwa in his welcome address expressed his delight to have the delegation in the country and recounted the mutual beneficial relationship between both countries and supervised the detailed presentation the delegation received. 

Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI), Major General Peter Andoh in a power point presentation briefed the delegation on the topic “Opportunities and Challenges of Population Growth on national security; the role of the Ghana Armed Forces”.  The presentation uncovered the dynamics of population growth in the 21st Century coupled with settlement challenges.

Major General Andoh opened up on how the West African sub-region was grappling with insecurity endangered by political instability as well as activities of extremists groups. He also touched on key demographic trends and opportunities in population growth.

The presentation was followed by fruitful discussions, sharing of experiences and best practices. The visiting delegation presented a plaque to the CDS to appreciate him for having time with them throughout their visit. The CDS in return also presented a plaque of acknowledgment.

The Nigerian National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies in Kuru is a policy formation Centre for bureaucrats, Private sector leaders, Army officers and Medium-rank and senior civil servants which serve as high level Centre for reflection, research and dialogue.

Present were the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Vice Marshal Frank Hanson, Chief of Staff at the General Headquarters, Rear Admiral Issah Yakubu, the Director General Personnel Administration (PA), Air Commodore Mike Kwame Appiah-Agyekum and some Senior Officers.
