The Sector Unity Commander for United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) , Brig Gen Taef Ul Hag paid a courtesy call on the Governor of Unity State and the Commander, 4th Infantry Division on Friday 21 August, 2020 in their offices at Bentiu.
The visit sought to discuss areas of mutual interest in strengthening the already-existed bilateral ties between the UNMISS and South Sudan People Defense Force (SSPDF) and to formally introduce the incoming Commanding Officer (CO), UNMISS Ghanbatt 8, Lt Col Robert Henry Sagoe.
Acknowledging the efforts of the UNMISS and Ghanaian battalion (Ghanbatt) over the period, the Governor, Dr Joseph Monytuila stated that he was impressed with the immense contribution of the two factions so far in helping restore peace and order in the Unity State.
He assured the incoming CO of his support and assistance towards making his mission in South Sudan fruitful and deepen ties between his office and UNMISS Sector Unity.
Lt Col AA Darkwa, CO Ghanbatt 7, in a brief remark expressed his profound gratitude to the Governor for the collaborative effort with state institutions in South Sudan in supporting the mandate of Ghanbatt since assumption of office stressing his tenure of office in South Sudan has been very comfortable.
The Commander, 4th Infantry Division, Maj Gen AM Nyigal said he was ready to work to improve the working conditions between UNMISS Sector Unity and SSPDF.
He stated that Unity State was challenged with activities of unknown assailants and cattle raid on the civil populace which made it difficult to bring sanity to the area.
He however charged that joint training activities between troops serving under UNMISS Sector Unity and soldiers under his command be established to equip the two factions with the necessary expertise of executing their duties towards maintaining peace in the State.
Maj Gen AM Nyigal pledged his continuous support and cooperation for UNMISS and SSPDF and the incoming Ghanbatt 8 at large commending UNMISS and Ghanbatt 7 for their efforts so far to restore peace in Unity State.
The Sector Unity Commander was accompanied by CO Monbatt, Col Dorjderm Battuvshin, CO Ghanbatt 7, Lt Col Antwi Awuah Darkwa, Incoming CO Ghanbatt 8, Lt Col Robert Henry Sagoe, Senior Staff Officers UNMISS Sector Unity and some key appointment holders of Ghanbatt 8.
Brig Gen Taef Ul Hag, the Sector Unity Commander and CO Ghanbatt 7, presented souvenirs to Dr Joseph Monytuil and Maj Gen AM Nyigal in turn to commemorate the visit.
