The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lt Gen OB Akwa has disclosed that the Ghana Armed Forces Council (GAFC) has tabled a proposal of 10% salary increment as well as free medical care for Civilian Employees on retirement for consideration.
He made these assertions at his maiden durbar with Civilian Employees on Friday 7 June 2019 at the Burma Hall.
The CDS added that the proposal also suggested for other allowances which included; tools, trade pay, qualification, inhibition, rent, transportation, operational and entertainment allowances, which were concerns raised by personnel of the establishment during the 2018 durbar with the President of the Republic.
CDS on other comparative issues advised them to be vigilant and cooperative in fighting the threat of terrorism in the country which was becoming a major concern.
According to him, the increasing number of kidnappings in the country was disturbing and called on all and sundry to put together collective measures to fight the threat. He specified that they could only enjoy the salary increment and peace in a stable environment and encouraged them to pass on any suspicious information to the authorities.
The Director, Civilian Establishment (DCE), Capt (GN) FB Anokye-Boakye in her remarks, stated that it was a great privilege to have the CDS and his top hierarchy for the historic maiden durbar with them. “This indicates the importance the CDS attaches to the valuable contributions the Civilian Employees make towards the achievement of the Armed Forces goals,” She reiterated.
Present at the durbar were the Service Chiefs, Chief of Staff (COS), Formation Commanders, Directors Generals, Senior Officers, Forces Sergeant Major (FSM) and the Civilian Employees.
