The Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence for African Affairs, Office of the Secretary of Defence Policy in the United States of America, Ms Michelle Lenihan, on Saturday 1 June 2019 called on the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lt Gen OB Akwa, at his office in Burma Camp, Accra.
Her visit was to discuss with the Military High Command how best the US government would help Ghana and Africa fight against the emerging threat of terrorism in the Sub-Sahara.
Ms Lenihan said it was necessary for the US the Army and Ghana Armed Forces to partner in the area of counter insurgency and terrorism which was becoming a global security threat.
The CDS, in his remarks, said the move to fight terrorism had come at an opportune time since the neighbouring countries had started facing these threats, citing Burkina Faso as an example.
He then expressed his appreciation for the visit.
Present were the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Maj Gen WA Ayamdo, Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) AVM F Hanson, Chief of Staff (COS) Maj Gen T Oppong-Peprah and some Senior Officers.
