The Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources in partnership with Zoomlion Ghana Limited have on Friday, 10 July 2020 donated five double cabin pick-ups to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) at the forecourt of the Directorate of Public Relations (DPR), Burma Camp in Accra.
The pick-ups which are branded “Operation COVID Safety” are intended to help GAF monitor and ensure the compliance of COVID-19 by-laws on sanitation within the Accra Metropolis.
The Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Hon Cecilia Abena Dapaah who spearheaded the event, mentioned that in a bid to enhance hygiene in this era, her Ministry presented 600 pieces of waste bins to the Ministry of Defense and GAF and therefore had gone further to present these five vehicles to GAF to enhance the monitoring of environmental campaign.
She used the occasion to thank Zoomlion Ltd, GAF and other stakeholders for their contribution to helping keep Ghana clean in this pandemic.
Minister for Defense, Hon Dominic Nitiwul hinted that the donation will go a long way to help achieve the vision of the President and Commander-in-Chief of GAF, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo in making Accra one of the cleanest cities in Africa. He further stated the collaboration between the Ministry of Sanitation and the Ministry of Defense would continue to grow as part of the efforts to defeat the deadly Coronavirus disease in the Country. He thanked all stakeholders for their benevolence shown to the Defense Ministry and GAF.
The Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General Obed Boamah Akwa stated that he was honoured by the kind gesture by the Sanitation Ministry, and assured them that the vehicles would be put to great use for the purpose for which it was donated.
