A total of 58 students drawn from the Ghana Armed Forces, the Ghana Police Service and the Revenue Division of the Custom Excise and Preventive Service have completed a 16-week Assistant Physical Training Instructors Course at colorful closing ceremony held on Thursday 10 July, 2020 at the GMA recreational ground at MATS in Teshie.
Speaking on behalf of the Commandant MATS, Maj Gen Charles Awitty, the General’s Staff Office One (GSO-1) at MATS, Lt Col E Sampson stated that the course was designed primarily to equip and assess their physical fitness, man management, strength endurance and their awareness in executing their day to day duties as an Assistant Physical Training Instructor.
He noted that, with the emerging threat of terrorism coupled with modern day life style, it has become increasingly necessary for security personnel to exercise regularly to keep themselves fit to meet any unforeseen circumstances and to reduce bills on medication.
“As security personnel, when the unexpected happens, it is you the nation will depend on to defend it. This demands that we must be physically fit at all times. This task squarely lies with you as Assistant Physical Training Instructors since you have acquired a lot in terms of knowledge in physical training and fitness”, he added.
Lt Col Sampson advised the graduands to actively participate in their unit’s training, games and other sporting activities. This he said will help them to improve upon their knowledge both in officiating and coaching as well as their level of confidence as Assistant Physical Training Instructors.
Awards were presented to personnel who distinguished themselves creditably throughout the course. L/Cpl Tawiah Michael Kwaku received the overall best student award while ACI Boafo Emmanuel and ACI Ninson Stephen Junior received the first and second runner-up awards respectively. L/Cpl Annor Larbi Rexford of the Ghana Police Service won the best allied student award while L/Cpl Sulemana Fedawus Phaedra received the best female award.
