The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lt Gen Obed Boamah Akwa has paid a working visit to the Military Covid-19 Isolation and treatment center at the El Wak Sports Stadium on Saturday 30 May, 2020.
The visit was to assess the condition of patients undergoing treatment as well as the working condition of medical staff stationed at the facility
The facility, which is an initiative of the Ghana Armed forces (GAF), is a Level 2 hospital and a sub-unit of the Military Covid-19 Management Team made up of 170 medical staffs who have undergone training in the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases. These personnel, prior to deployment at the center, had gone through psychological sessions to prepare for the work ahead. The facility serves both soldiers and civilians who have tested positive for COVID-19.
The Commanding Officer (CO) of the Level 2 Hospital, Col Gbireh Thomas Aquinas said, the facility which started receiving patients from 3 April 2020, had so far received 61 patients of which 34 had been treated and discharged. He added that the remaining 27 were healthy and exhibiting Signs of recovery.
The CDS applauded the medical team for the good work done and up- lifting the image of the GAF. He congratulated the staff for the success chalked, especially regarding a medical surgery they performed at the facility and assured them of his support.
Director General, Ghana Armed Forces Medical Services (GAFMS), Brig Gen Ernest Crosby Saka later toured the CDS and his entourage around the facility. As part of the tour, the CDS interacted with patients at the facility. He advised them to adhere to instructions to help them recover quickly.
The CDS was accompanied by the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Rear Admiral Seth Amoama, Chief of Air Staff (CAS) Air Vice Marshal Frank Hanson, and the Chief of Staff (COS), Rear Admiral IA Yakubu.
Also present were Commander 37 Military hospital, Brig Gen Nii Adjah Obodai, and other Senior Officers.
