The government of Ghana has joined the world to commemorate the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers at the Parliament House in Accra on Friday May 29 2020.
This year’s celebration was on the theme “Women in Peacekeeping - A key to Peace”. It was to celebrate both uniformed and civilian women in peacekeeping for their contribution to world peace. Women over the past 20 years have been role models in fostering peace and have impacted many lives across the globe.
The Deputy Minister of Defence, Maj Derek Oduro (Rtd), commended all women involved in United Nations Peacekeeping. He revealed that Ghana had increased the number of women participation in international peacekeeping in various operational settings.
He urged all to forge on a united front by implementing the protocols as outlined by the World Health Organization (WHO) to ensure safety and prevent the spread of the COVID–19. He further admonished women to once again lead the fight to stop the spread of the virus.
Maj Oduro (Rtd) applauded the United Nations for an appropriate theme, and congratulated all peacekeepers, past and present, for their contribution to world peace.
