10 May 2019. The Minister for Defence, Honourable Dominic Nitiwul has on Friday 10 May 2019 commissioned transit accommodation blocks for personnel and a breeding kennel for dogs at the National Dog Academy at Okponglo, Accra.
The project seeks to provide accommodation for personnel at the Academy to train the dogs effectively under all-weather conditions and at all times.
The special Guest of Honour, Honourable Dominic Nitiwul, in his address, said that dogs played a significant role in security adding that the National Dog Academy is the only Dog Training Academy in West Africa which would serve Ghana and West Africa at large.
He stated that plans were far advanced to upgrade the Academy into a military company with the status of a full training school with its own command structure. He encouraged all security agencies and individuals to patronize the services of the Academy to boost security.
Honourable Nitiwul advised personnel in charge of the Academy to take good care of the project. He thanked The German Armed Forces Technical Advisory Group (GAFTAG) for donating a mini bus to the Academy and also refurbishing the accommodation blocks. He also commended other stakeholders and partners for their immense contribution towards the success of the Academy.
The project which commenced in 2015 and completed in 2018 has a basketball court, a kennel and a four-unit block with 20 rooms to accommodate 40 personnel.
