The Deputy Minister for Defence, Hon Major Derek Oduro (Rtd), has on Thursday, 13 February 2020 cut a sod for the construction of the General Officer Commanding’s (GOC’s) Guest House at the Central Command in Kumasi.
The Ultra-modern Guest House after completion in 24 months would serve as a temporary accommodation for all Military Officers both serving and retired who visits the Central Command to perform an official duty or task at any point in time.
The project which will be funded by the Ghana Army and Ellis Royal Investment (A real Estate Developing Firm based in Kumasi) under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) Initiative will comprise; 18 Regular rooms with Bed quarter, washroom, and a place for study in each room and 5 Suites which also consist of Bed quarter, Lounge, a sanitary and a walk-in-closet and other ancillary facility in each suite.
Speaking at the sod cutting ceremony, the Guest of Honour, the Deputy Minister for Defence, Hon Major Derek Oduro (Rtd), expressed his hope that the edifice would go a long way to serve its intended purpose in the 4 Garrison and the Central Command as a whole. He commended the Ghana Army and the Ellis Royal Investment Company Limited for teaming up to put up such an ultra-modern facility.
”I am told this is not the first assistance the CEO and his company is offering to the Garrison. I pray that your friendship will continue to be stronger and even extend to the other Units in the Ghana Armed Forces,” he added.
He also lauded the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Maj Gen William Ayamdo as well as the GOC, Central Command, Brig Gen Joseph Aphour for the PPP Initiative and the efforts put in place for the commencement of the project.
In his welcome address, Brig Gen Aphour said he was delighted to see that such a building was going to be constructed to ease the burden of accommodating Senior Military Officers and government officials when they visit the Command.
He said it was prudent for the Command to build a bigger Guest House since the old one which had been demolished had few rooms to accommodate visitors.
Present at the ceremony were the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon Simon Osei Mensah, the Mayor of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Mr Osei Assibey Antwi, the Chief of the Army Staff, Maj Gen William Ayamdo, The rest were Director Army Logistics, Col Kwao Adottey, the Commanding Officer (CO) 4th Infantry Battalion, Lt Col Kwesi Ware Peprah and the CEO of Ellis Royal Investment Company Limited, Mr Franklin Aboakye.
