CDS Supports Duala Fire Victims

Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lt Gen Obed Boamah Akwa has given an undisclosed amount of money to the seven victims whose apartments were gutted by fire incident at the Duala C block on 27 November 2019.

Doing the donation on behalf of the CDS on Friday 29 Nov 2019, the Defence Financial Comptroller (DFC), Brig Gen Daniel Fiifi Amissah stated that the amount was to cater for the immediate upkeep of the victims, while Command works at finding a lasting solution to the problem.

Prior to the donation, the Chief of Staff (COS), Maj Gen Thomas Oppong Peprah visited the victims on Thursday 28 November 2019 to ascertain the damage and to raise the morale of the victims as well as console them on the disaster.

On Wednesday 27 November 2019, at about 1230 hrs, fire engulfed seven rooms of soldiers on C block of Duala lines in Burma Camp destroying several properties and valuables.

Forces fire service responded swiftly to douse the fire from destroying more rooms. Meanwhile, the Directorate of Engineering Services at the General Headquarters is working to determine the cause of the fire and also renovate the building.
