A six-member delegation from the German Armed Forces Technical Advisory Group (GAFTAG) led by the Liaison Officer at the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, Lt Col Schoofs has paid a courtesy call on the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lt Gen Obed Boamah Akwa on Wednesday 22 May 2019 at Burma Camp, Accra.
The visit was to strengthen the bilateral cooperation that existed between the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and the German Armed Forces and access some of the projects which the GAFTAG has supported.
According to Lt Col Schoofs, GAFTAG had designed a four-year programme to provide logistical and constructional support to GAF. Notable among the Regiments and Directorate that had benefitted from the programme include the Engineer Corps, Ghana Dog Academy (GDA) and Defence Intelligence (DI).
The CDS welcomed the delegation and thanked the GAFTAG for their immense contribution to the Engineer Corps, the Ghana Dog Academy (GDA), Defence Intelligence (DI) as well as providing general logistic support to GAF.
The CDS said the most important landmark was the establishment of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) which continues to help in the training of personnel in the area of security.
The CDS added that, there is the need for a continuous training of personnel with required logistical support with German training DA personnel to further enhance their expertise in relation to dog training as part of their exchange programmes.
