A brief Transfer of Authority (TOA) parade was held to pass command from Commanding Officer UNIFIL GHANBATT 88, Lt Col B Boamah to CO GHANBATT 89, Lt Col JY Kwarteng at United Nations Position (UNP) 5-66, Obeng Camp on Wednesday 14 September 2022.

The TOA signified the official handing and taking over that mandates UNIFIL GHANBATT 89 to monitor the cessation of hostilities, support the Lebanese Armed Forces and Government of Lebanon to deploy and establish credibility throughout the areas south of the Litany River amongst other tasks in order to facilitate the full implementation of UNSCR 1701 and 2591.

The Sector West Commander, Brigadier General Giuseppe Bertoncello while addressing the parade as the Guest of Honour, extolled Ghana for its continuous support and commitment to UNIFIL and Lebanon. He further commended Lt Col B Boamah and GHANBATT 88 whom he described as trained and well-motivated personnel for their contribution to the implementation of the missions mandate by accomplishing their tasks with utmost professionalism and dedication.

Brig Gen Bertoncello extended his well wishes while imploring Lt Col JY Kwarteng and personnel of GHANBATT 89 to uphold the highest expectations all relevant stakeholders expected of them.

Also present at the ceremony were Madam Nicoleta Verestiuc; Head of Mission Support, representatives from the Lebanese Armed Forces and Mayors of various Municipalities.
