The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) held a graduation ceremony for 5000 female spouses during its Command Skills Training on Friday, 7 August 2022 at Burma Hall in Burma Camp, Accra.

The skills training was set up by the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) to equip spouses of military personnel, civilian staff, female military personnel and members of other security services to financially support their husbands in active service and on retirement.

The Guest of Honour, Her Excellency Samira Bawumia in her welcome address lauded the CDS, Vice Admiral Seth Amoama and the Military High Command for the initiative. She expressed her appreciation for the trainees’ enthusiasm and willingness to learn a trade.

The Second Lady commended GAF for involving other sister security agencies in the training and entreated all participants to make good use of the trades they had acquired and build upon them. The participants who received training in bead and soap making, juice making, home management and entrepreneurship amongst others were presented with certificates by the Guest of Honour.

The CDS, Vice Admiral Amoama in his speech said the thought of improving the livelihood of personnel and other staff as well as their families occurred to him when he took over as the CDS. He stated that the projected 4000 participants was exceeded with the total number of participants reaching 5000 in total. He added that the Skills Training was in line with the government’s agenda for job creation and that he was excited to see some men participants as well as retired Defence Civilian Staff.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ghana Enterprises Agency, Madam Kosi Yankey-Ayeh congratulated all participants from all 7 Garrisons. She admonished them to put the skills learnt to good use to improve their livelihood.

The GAF Command Skills Training commenced on 6 June and ended on Friday, 5 August 2022 in all 7 Garrisons across Ghana.
