A flag raising ceremony was held at the Headquarters, 15 Armoured Brigade, in Gondar Barracks, Burma Camp, on Friday 8 July 2022, to commemorate the 1st Anniversary of the establishment of the Brigade. 

The Armour Brigade was established in July 2021, to coordinate operations of the Armoured Regiments in support of the various Army Commands. The Brigade is made up of the 153 Armoured Regiment in Gondar Barracks, Burma Camp, 154 Armoured Regiment in Sunyani, 155 Armoured Regiment in Damongo and the Armoured Training School (ATS) in Sunyani. The Brigade, a combat arm of the Ghana Army supports GAF in land operations.

In his remarks, the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Winfried Dzandu-Hedidor stated that the 15 Armoured Brigade was the first Brigade Unit established as part of the expansion drive of the Ghana Army. He expressed his appreciation to the Military High Command for the opportunity given him to serve as the first Armoured Brigade Commander. He mentioned that though the Brigade is in its formative years and should not recount achievements, it had so far excelled in discharging its duties as an infantile Brigade.

Brigadier General Winfried Dzandu-Hedidor stated that the Brigade had successfully conducted 2 training sessions for Basic Infantry Training Courses (BITC) at the ATS and a Basic Armour Course, at 155 Armour Regiment, Sunyani. He further added that personnel of the Brigade have excelled on all major training activities and courses. In terms of infrastructural development, the Brigade Commander stated that the Military High Command had improved the accommodation state of the various units, over the period.

Brigadier General Winfried Dzandu-Hedidor urged troops under command to be faithful to their calling; to remain professional and disciplined to fulfill the Brigade’s mission of providing armour support to the various Army Commands. 

He lauded Officers, Soldiers, Defence Civilian Staff and friends of the Brigade for their support and implored them to maintain the zeal and enthusiasm of flying high the flag of the Brigade, to achieve higher laurels.

In attendance were the Commander 17 Army Signal Brigade, Commanding Officers 153 Armoured Regiment, 64 Infantry Regiment and Second-In-Command, 5 Battalion.
