CAS CUTS SOD FOR OFFICE EXTENSION PROJECT AT HQ SOUTHERN COMMAND

A ground breaking ceremony has been held to signify the commencement of the Headquarters Southern Command Office Extension and Renovation Project at Kpeshie Barracks on Wednesday 22 June 2022.

The office extension project which is estimated to cost Two Million Three Hundred and Fifty One Thousand Cedis (GHS 2,351,000.00) is expected to add a 100-seater conference room and a 150-seater auditorium to the existing infrastructure of the command headquarters as well as offices for staff officers.

The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Vice Marshall (AVM) Frank Hanson in a speech on behalf of the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Vice Admiral Seth Amoama as the guest of honor was impressed with the various initiatives and infrastructural developments that the command had put up to improve the working conditions for personnel of the unit over the past few years.

He indicated that, government through the barracks regeneration project has been making frantic efforts to bridge the accommodation gap by building accommodation facilities in the various units. “It is therefore very encouraging to note that various commands and units also in their small ways are contributing their quota towards solving the accommodation challenges in the GAF” he added.

AVM Frank Hanson commended past GOCs of the command for the various self-help projects they have implemented to help alleviate the infrastructural deficits in the command, and appealed to friends of the command, GAF and philanthropists to support the initiative.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) Southern Command, Brig Gen Michael Ayisi Amoah in his remarks indicated that the project is in line with the vision of the CDS and the military high command towards restructuring and modernizing the Ghana Armed Forces to meet contemporary security challenges facing the country.

He stated that, the command headquarters holds meetings and conferences with sister security agencies and representatives of civilian institutions in its area of operations  in the command operations room (Ops Room), which has the tendency to compromise the security of information and other classified documents, hence the need for an ultra-modern conference room to serve such purposes.

The GOC announced that the project would be funded under a self-help basis, and therefore appealed for sponsorship in cash or kind from friends of the command and philanthropists to help see the project to fruition.

A project implementation committee under the leadership of the command logistics officer, Col EK Nyarko has been composed to oversee the smooth construction of the project.

Paramount Chief of Teshie, Gbetsoolor Nii Ashitey Akomfra III, The National Security Coordinator, Maj Gen Francis Adu Amanfo (Rtd), Eastern Regional Minister, Hon Seth Kwame Acheampong, Member of Parliament for the Ledzokuku constituency, Hon Benjamin Ayiku Narteh as well as Military top brass and representatives of cooperate Ghana graced the occasion.
