UNITED KINGDOM’S MINISTER FOR ARMED FORCES VISITS GHANA ARMED FORCES

The United Kingdom's (UK) Minister for the Armed Forces, Honourable James Heappey, MP, has visited the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) General Headquarters.  He was received by the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Vice Marshal Frank Hanson on Monday, 20 June 2022 at Burma Camp, Accra.

The purpose of the visit was to render support to the Accra Initiative, strengthen the bilateral relationship between Ghana and the UK as well as deepen the existing cooperation in maritime security among West African countries.

Air Vice Marshal Hanson, who received him on behalf of  the Chief of the Defense Staff (CDS), Vice Admiral Seth Amoama lauded the UK Armed Forces for their support and cooperation in the area of defense.  He added that, the collaboration with the Ghana Navy would also expand the fight against piracy in the Gulf of Guinea as well as threats emanating from the Sahel region.

CAS commended the UK Armed Forces for their input towards peace and security in Ghana and other parts of the world.

Hon Heappey, in his remarks stated that, the Accra Initiative would go a long way to curb the insecurity in West Africa.
