The Ghana Armed Forces has on Thursday 9 June 2022 held an opening ceremony to officially commence an eight week Trade Skills Training at the 4 Garrison, Kumasi.
The training which will be undertaken in all garrisons across Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), is aimed at empowering and training spouses, dependents of military personnel and Civilian Employees in order to equip them with skills that will enable them support their families.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Chief Of the Defence Staff, Vice Admiral Seth Amoama remarked that, the Ghana Navy over the years has made an effort to equip spouses of personnel and some civilian employees with employable skills to help them work to support their spouses in the Navy.
He indicated that the positive effects of these training on those who took part are too glaring to gloss over, as it has become a source of livelihood for most of the participants. It is against the backdrop of this rewarding effect of previous training, that the Military High Command has deemed it very necessary to organize another Trade Skills Training for all spouses, dependents of military personnel and Civilian Employees across all the garrisons of the GAF for persons who may be interested.
He added that, the skills selected this year include training in confectionaries, some selected food dishes, beads making, soap making, flower arrangements, juice making as well as discussions on home management, entrepreneurship and marketing /branding skills.
The CEO of the Ghana Enterprise Agency (GEA) Mrs Kosi Yankey- Ayeh, one of the major sponsors of the training, in her speech commended Military Command for the laudable initiative. She assured Command of GEA’s unflinching support to ensure the goal of Command, which is to train 4,000 spouses from Army, Navy, Air Force and Civilian Employees is fully met.
As part of the ceremony, the trainees exhibited some of the works they’ve produced over the week.
Some of the organizations supporting the skills training are Ghana Enterprise Agency, Ghana Gas Company, Ghana Maritime Authority, Wilmar Africa, Tema Flour Mills, OMMICAD Group, and Promasidor Ghana.
Present at the ceremony were; the Chief of the Defence Staff Vice Admiral Seth Amoama, Deputy Chief of Staff (Admin) Air Vice Marshal Appiah Agyekum, GOC Central Command Brigadier General JA Aphour, Director General Religious Affairs Commodore Adjei Gyan, Commanding Officer 4BN Lt Col KW Peprah, COO Central Command Col ELS GYADU, other senior officers, CEO GEA Mrs Kosi Yankey- Ayeh, other sponsors, spouses and trainees. The training is expected to come to a close on 4 August 2022.
