The Spanish Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Javier Gutiérrez has paid a courtesy call on the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Vice Admiral Seth Amoama at his office in Burma Camp on Friday 10 June, 2022.

The visit was aimed at strengthening the bilateral relations with the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) through collaborations in specific areas of training in order to combat the evolving dynamics of the security threats confronting the African continent with special attention to maritime crimes in the Gulf of Guinea as well as spillover of Jihadist militants from neighbouring countries.

The CDS in a welcome address, noted that GAF’s bilateral relationship with Spain has been long standing, dating back to the days of independence. He stated that, the good relations have led to the sharing of very insightful security and intelligence advices as well as professional training on the CASA Aircraft, Health, among others.

Leveraging on the peaceful security situation in Ghana, CDS said the country was conducive for business. He, thus made a special case for industrial and technical cooperation, training of personnel in the area of intelligence and the deployment of Defence Attachés to the Spanish embassy to facilitate military cooperation.

HE Gutiérrez on his part, said efforts were currently underway to help Ghana curb spillover of Jihadist groups from other neighbouring countries. He revealed that, the Spanish team together with the Ghana Police Service was undertaking a project in Northern Ghana and gathering intelligence on Jihadist activities in the sub region.

The Ambassador also indicated readiness on the part of Spanish companies to do competitive business with GAF in the area of Defence Industries to help promote industrial and technical cooperation.
