A delegation from the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council and the Jospong Group of Companies led by the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon Henry Quartey has paid a working visit to the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Vice Admiral Seth Amoama on Thursday, 12 May 2022 at the General Headquarters, Burma Camp.
The visit was aimed at commending the Military High Command for its professional stewardship and continued support towards national development. It was also to acknowledge the central role played by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) in relocating the Agbogbloshie Market amongst other issues.
The Greater Accra Regional Minister commended CDS and the Military High Command for training the Special Civilian Taskforce which would be deployed to enforce cleanliness in the region. He appealed for GAF’s continued support in the running of the taskforce in order to ensure its success.
Hon Quartey revealed that his Ministry in collaboration with Jospong Group of Companies has set up a special office in-charge of cleanliness. This office, he said will also prosecute citizens who litter the city and fail to keep their surroundings clean. He wished for serving and retired senior Officers and Soldiers to head the office to ensure proper supervision and adherence.
The Executive Chairman of Jospong Group of Companies, Mr Joseph Siaw Agyepong lauded GAF for their discipline and orderliness in the ongoing ‘Operation Clean Your Frontage’ Campaign. He added that though there is a code of conduct to govern the work of the Taskforce, they still would need the services of GAF to achieve their desired aim.
On his part, the CDS pledged his full support for the Initiative, adding that GAF has rolled out similar policy in the barracks by earmarking every first Saturday of the month as Barracks Sanitation Day.
