The Director-General of the Department of Civilian Establishment (DCE) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), Brigadier General A Asiedu paid his maiden visit to 2 Garrison, Takoradi on 6 and 7 May 2022.

The main purpose of the 2-day working visit was to enable him gain first-hand knowledge of the welfare needs of the Defence Civilian Staff (DCS) in the various Garrisons.

Gen Asiedu to the opportunity to call on the Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command (FOC/WNC), Commodore Samuel Walker. The FOC, who doubles as the Garrison Commander, welcomed him and congratulated him on his appointment as the Director-General for DCE. He urged him to remain focused and deliver to the best of his ability. Brig Gen Asiedu in response thanked the FOC and assured him of putting in place the appropriate measures for the welfare of Civilian Staff.

As part of his visit, he held a durbar with Civilian Staff of 2 Infantry Battalion, the Air Force Base and the Western Naval Command. In his interaction with personnel, he urged them to be professional in their assigned duties and advised them to be innovative in making life meaningful for themselves. He assured the personnel of his awareness of their welfare needs which was his topmost priority. He advised personnel to sign onto the provident in order to secure a better future.

Other issues discussed at the durbar were the conversion of their allowances into percentages, promotions, punctuality and updating of documents when necessary to protect their dependants in times of unforeseen situations.
