GAF INAUGURATES DEFENCE PRESS CORPS

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) through the Directorate of Public Relations (DPR) has inaugurated the Defence Press Corps (DPC) on Friday, 22 April 2022 at Burma Camp to provide accurate, effective and professional coverage of activities of GAF.

The Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Administration (DCOS ADMIN), AVM Michael Kwame Appiah-Agyekum who represented the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), in his remarks said he was honoured to be at the official inauguration of the DPC. He noted that GAF, though established to protect the territorial integrity of the country, has been more involved in national development, external peace support operations and internal security operations.

He explained that the pursuits of GAF are scrutinised, interpreted, judged, and understood through the mass media that apply images and narratives to communicate the outputs to the general public and the world. Adding that the media was therefore seen as indispensable actors in the State as they inform, educate, entertain, persuade, survey and socialise with the populace.

AVM Appiah-Agyekum urged DPC to collaborate more with DPR to ensure accurate reportage on GAF. He was grateful to DPR for organising cadres over the past few years to build the capacity of journalists to enhance accurate, balanced and ethical military reporting.

The President of the Ghana Journalist Association, Mr Roland Affail Monney congratulated the newly elected Executive of DPC for laying the foundation of media relations. He also thanked GAF for actualising the dream of the formation of the DPC. He stated that the collaboration would build bridges of understanding between the two parties and promote subject area speciality through training to aid truthful and timely reportage of GAF activities.

The Dean of DPC, Mr Kofi Ampeah Woode expressed his gratitude for the opportunity given to DPC following the swearing in of the executive members.  He thanked the CDS and the Military High Command for the support and contribution to the institutionalisation of DPC.

He added that DPC aims at using available means to provide accurate, effective and professional media coverage for all activities of GAF.
