The Air Force Recruit Training School (AFRTS) in Takoradi has held an Inter-company Steeplechase competition for the Basic Infantry Training Course (BITC) 2-21.
The objective of the steeplechase exercise which was on Thursday 23 December, 2021 was to test the endurance of the recruits on different terrains, their cooperation as a unit and their ability to traverse obstacles after a long tiring run.
The participants covered a distance of 12km after which they crossed obstacles at the School Obstacle Course and a finished line within two hours.
In ascending order of the female category in the individual effort, Recruit Alhassan Adama, Recruit Tiwaa Mary and Recruit Gloria Akuribire were awarded in that order respectively. Whiles in the male category, also in ascending order, Recruit Awal Muhammed from the Charley Company, Recruit Annor Blay also from the Charley Company and Recruit Gaah Aikins Kingsley from the Alpha Company were awarded in that order respectively. The Bravo company won the competition with 59 points, followed by the Alpha company with 58 points and the Charley Company trailed with 53 points.
In his remarks, the Guest of Honour for the event, Officer Commanding Flying Wing, Air Force Base –Takoradi, Group Captain KM Atiemo noted that, the recruit training package was designed to produce among others, a well-trained, highly motivated, discipline, physically and mentally tough soldier capable of performing any task assigned. He added that, it was for that reason that the BITC had been designed to be challenging so that only highly and disciplined Recruits would have the opportunity to join the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) after 25 weeks of training.
He congratulated the winning company for their display of team work, cooperation and determination and commended the Training Officer and his able Instructors for a good organisation of the event.
