A former Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) Matron of the 37 Military Hospital, Lt Col Edith Philomena Tamakloe (Rtd), has celebrated her 90th birthday at the Allied Ward of the 37 Military Hospital on Friday, December 17, 2021.
As part of the birthday celebrations, she donated an amount of Five Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH5000) to a patient, Zakari Alhassan who is on admission at the Edith Tamakloe Ward which is named after her.
The Chief Nursing Officer (Admn) of the facility, Lt Col Rahinatu Sledge Alando received the donation and thanked her for the kind gesture.
Lt Col Edith Philomina Tamakloe was commissioned as a Lieutenant into the Ghana Armed Forces Medical Services on 24 Nov 1961. She served in various capacities in her field both nationally and internationally. She served as a Deputy Matron from August 1964 to January 1971. A Matron from 1971 to March 1980, DMS (Nursing) from 21 March 1980 to 15 March 1983 and made history as the longest serving Matron of the 37 Military Hospital, a record yet to be broken.
