A Pre-deployment reconnaissance (RECCE) team led by Ghana Battalion (GHANBATT) 12 Commanding Officer (CO), Lieutenant Colonel Godfred Asampong have paid a 12-day working visit to UNMISS GHANBATT Area of Operational Responsibility (AOR).
The reconnaissance which was conducted from 30 March –12 April 2024 was to enable the team obtain firsthand information about the operations, administrative and logistic situation of GHANBATT to facilitate decision making before insertion.
As part of the visit, the delegation paid courtesy calls on the Bentiu Head of Field Office, the Head of Field Administration Office and Sector Unity Commander as well as the Ghana Formed Police Unit (GHANFPU). The delegation also embarked on a tour of the GHANBATT’s Company Operating Base (COB) and Temporary Operating Base in Leer and Koch respectively.
CO GHANBATT 11, Lieutenant Colonel Dominic Ampomah in his remarks during a farewell reception reiterated the importance of the recce visit and entreated the team to spell out the necessary challenges they have been exposed to in their report to be submitted to the Military High Command. He indicated that the challenges are worked on, GHANBATT 12 would have a smooth tour of duty.
Lieutenant Colonel Godfred Asampong on behalf of the Recce Team expressed his heartfelt appreciation towards the entire GHANBATT 11 for the warm reception they received during their stay. He assured the Commanding Officer that all the challenges pointed out to him would be communicated to the appropriated authorities. He lauded GHANBATT 11 for the successes it has chalked up so far and wished GHANBATT 11 the very best in the remaining months of their tour of duty.
Other members of the Recce team were the Chief Operations Officer Major Eric Kuntu Blankson and the Chief Logistics Officer Major Harriet Nkrumah. The Commanding Officer of MONBATT 13, Colonel Olumbayid was also in attendance.
