SPANISH AMBASSADOR, DEFENCE ATTACHE HOLD STRATEGIC TALKS WITH CNS

The Spanish Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Javier Gutierrez and the Defence Attaché, Colonel (Col) Manuez Gonzalez, has called on Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Rear Admiral Issah Adam Yakubu on Wednesday 22 May 2024.

The courtesy call on the CNS at the Naval Headquarters, Burma Camp aimed to reinforce cooperation between the Ghana Navy and Spain through the European Union (EU), in maritime security and defence against terrorism.

Rear Admiral Yakubu expressed his gratitude for the support and cooperation received from Spain, highlighting the successful joint exercises and training programs conducted between the two navies. He praised the Spanish Navy’s initiative to bring their vessel to Ghana, and called for more capacity building programme for naval personnel and stakeholders in the maritime security domain.

The Ambassador reaffirmed Spain’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s defence and security efforts, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in addressing common security challenges in the Gulf of Guinea. He stated that Ghana remains a top priority for maritime security due to its achievements in democracy and regional stability.

According to him, berthing Spanish Naval Ship at the Western Naval Command presents an opportunity for enhanced cooperation in fighting maritime threats, understanding challenges in order to provide support. He also called for the exploration in National Satellite as an area of cooperation.
