PRESIDENT MARKS GREEN GHANA DAY IN BURMA CAMP

As part of the Green Ghana Day celebrations, President and Commander-in-Chief the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has planted a tree at the Nicholson Stadium, Burma Camp on 7June, 2024.

The event, dubbed "Growing for a Greener Tomorrow," aims at planting ten million trees to contribute to the global efforts of combating climate change.

In his speech, the President noted that environmental crisis such as climate change, pollution and biodiversity have worsen as a result of deforestation, desertification, land, and soil degradation. He called for initiatives to preserve forests as well as adaptation of sustainable agricultural practices to combat climate change.

The President also noted that forests are essential natural resources for socioeconomic development in developing countries, hence the commitment to the Green Ghana Project to reverse ecosystem degradation.

The Minister for Defence, Honourable (Hon) Dominic Nitiwil, stated that the Ministry and GAF understand the significance of environmental conservation and sustainability in securing a prosperous future. He expressed pride in the MOD and GAF's contribution to the Green Ghana initiative to mitigate climate change and safeguard national heritage through collective efforts in tree planting to promote sustainable land management practices.

The Minister urged GAF personnel and the general public to actively participate in the afforestation program by planting a tree and embrace the responsibility to protect and preserve the natural resources for a greener tomorrow.

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon Samuel Abdulai Jinapor, commended GAF for their significant contribution to the success of the Green Ghana Day. He expressed his commitment to protecting forest resources and restoring lost forests to make Ghana a global leader in forest management and natural-based climate action.
