The Indian High Commissioner to Ghana, His Excellency (HE) Mr Manish Gupta has paid a courtesy call on the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Western Naval Command (WNC), Commodore Emmanuel Ayesu Kwafo on Thursday, 18 July 2024.

The High Commissioner expressed his appreciation and spoke about commitment of India to fostering strong bilateral relations with Ghana, particularly in the areas of defence and security. He emphasised the importance of maritime cooperation between the two nations, given their shared interest in maintaining peace and stability in the region.

He was confident that the two nations will continue to build on the foundation of mutual respect and collaboration, adding that, his visit had not only reinforced the existing ties but also paved the way for future endeavours in maritime cooperation, to wit, ensuring that the waters of the Gulf of Guinea are safer.

Commodore Kwafo expressed his gratitude to India for their support noted that Ghana had always valued its relationship with India and they were keen to explore opportunities for collaboration in naval training, joint exercises, and sharing of best practices.

FOC, highlighted the strategic importance of the Ghana Navy in safeguarding the territorial waters of Ghana, combating piracy, and ensuring maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea. He touched on the efforts undertaken to modernise and strengthen the capacity of the Ghana Navy and stressed on areas where Ghana could benefit from the expertise of India, such as advanced naval technologies and capacity building.

They exchanged gifts as a sign of appreciation.




Present were the Flag Officer Naval Logistics, Commodore Eric Osei, Flag Officer Fleet, Commodore Samuel Ayelazono and Senior Officers.
