The Headquarters Southern Command has celebrated 2023 West African Soldiers Social Activities (WASSA) at Kpeshie Ridge on Wednesday, 20 December 2023.

The occasion was aimed at offering the opportunity to all ranks in the Unit to congregate, make merry and unwind from the stress, as well as take stock of activities of the year while plans were made for the ensuing year.

The Chief Staff Officer (CSO) at the Army Headquarters, Brigadier General (Brig Gen) BB Owusu on behalf of the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Maj Gen Thomas Oppong-Peprah as Guest of Honour for the event, intimated that although the year has been eventful with its accompanying challenges, a lot would be expected of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) in 2024, since the country would go to the polls.

He indicated that success of the force would largely depend on sound intelligence and total commitment by troops to defend the country at all times. He praised the exploits of Southern Command for the continuous support to civil authorities to maintain law and order and also on operations such as Operation Halt II, Calm Life, and Motherland.

For his part, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) Southern Command, Brig Gen Samuel Yeboah Asare commended Officers, soldiers and civilian staff under the Command for their selflessness, courage and fortitude in making the year a success.

He urged all troops to remain disciplined and fearless in the discharge of their duties and avoid illegal one-man operations and habits that would put them in trouble. He charged troops to join the crusade to strengthen civil-military cooperation and to foster better relations with other sister security agencies and work together to make the Command and the Ghana Army proud in the coming year.

Some Soldiers and Defence Civilian Staff were presented with awards at the event for their hard work during the past year.
