The closing ceremony for the Explosive Hazard Awareness Training (EHAT) Course has been held at the 851 Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Regiment Headquarters at Michel Camp on Friday 25 October 2024. The week-long training course, conducted in partnership with the French Embassy, was designed to enhance participants’ skills in understanding and effectively responding to explosive hazards, including threats from Explosive Remnants of War (ERW). Liaison Officer from the French Embassy and Guest of Honour for the event, Major Patrick Pusceddu, expressed his gratitude to the Military High Command and stated that the French Embassy remains committed to supporting collective efforts to eliminate the dangers posed by unexploded ordnance, thereby enhancing safety and fostering hope for communities in the region. The Officer in Charge of Training for the 851 EOD Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel Francis Laapo, who addressed the participants on behalf of the Commander of the EOD Regiment, Colonel Gasper Asare, emphasized that the primary objective of the training was to improve competence. He highlighted the importance of scenario-based drills simulating real-world conditions, which were essential for building participants’ confidence and expertise in explosive hazard management. Lieutenant Colonel Laapo also expressed appreciation for the invaluable collaboration with the French Embassy, noting that this partnership has equipped personnel with critical skills, thereby strengthening the regiment’s preparedness and overall operational safety.
