ECOMIG GHANCOY 7 DONATES TO SOUTH ESSAU CENTRAL MOSQUE IN SUPPORT OF “TOBASKI”

The ECOWAS Military Intervention In Gambia (ECOMIG) Ghana Company 7 (GHANCOY 7) serving under the ECOMIG mission in The Gambia, under the command of Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Kwesi Peprah, has donated assorted items to the South Essau Central Mosque in support of “Tobaski” (Eid) festive celebration. The Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) activity was aimed at augmenting preparations made by the locals for a successful celebration of the “Tobaski”. It was also meant to strengthen the cordial relations between GHANCOY and the communities under South Essau District, as well as the continuous move to win the hearts and minds of Gambians.


The items donated included; 10 packs of bottled water, 125 pieces of prayer mats, 24 pieces of ablution kettles and 25 cartons of assorted soft drinks. In his presentation to the Chief Imam on behalf of the Officer Commanding (OC), the Second-In-Command (2IC), Major Francis Ackom said the gesture was in recognition of and to foster the existing relationship between ECOMIG GHANCOY and the surrounding communities in the South Essau District. He also added that, the event was a platform for the OC and the entire Unit to extend goodwill message to entire community for a fruitful celebration.

Receiving the items, the Chief Imam of the mosque, Alhaji Doudu Seidi, thanked ECOMIG GHANCOY for the continuous love shown to the people of the community over the years and assured that the items will serve the purpose for which they were donated.

Present at the ceremony were the Chief of Essau, George Sanko, the Alkalo of South Essau District Mumudu Lamin Njai, a representative from the Gambian Defence Headquarters Lt Col Lamin Fati and several other elders of the community.
